2019 RIMRA meeting

RIMRA will have a meeting at 9:30 8:30 on Saturday, March 9, in the Beaupre Center on URI’s Kingston Campus. The primary discussion topic will be the acquisition of a new launch site. Unfortunately, the construction for the new South County Bike Path has cut off the road to our launch site at Peckham Farm, and URI is planing to build greenhouses on the site as part of their Innovation District. We are currently looking into alternative sites. If you have any suggestions, or better yet, if you own a large tract of cleared land, please contact Brenton. All options are on the table!

Address for the Beaupre Center: 140 Flagg Rd, Kinston, RI 02881. Enter the parking lot via Alumni Ave.

Happy Holidays

We at RIMRA want to wish everyone a happy holiday season and hope that you find lots of rocket-stuff under the tree.  All I want for Christmas this year is better weather for launching in 2019.

Scrubbed Again!!!

Unfortunately, the field and road are too wet, and we still can’t disturb the experimental crop. We may not launch again until the spring, but if there is any weekend where we have decent weather between now and then, we’ll try to find a way to launch. We’ll post launch details here an on Facebook.

More bad luck!

No launch this weekend. Peckham Farm has recently been planted with an experimental crop. We are looking for alternative sites to try to get one more launch in before it gets too cold.

“First Man” on the moon is showing Join us October 12th at the Providence IMAX Theater!!!

“We choose to go to the Moon! We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too.”

We choose to go to IMAX as it is easy to get to and there is a Dave and Buster’s next door

LAUNCH! (It’s about time.)

The weather is looking good for the launch this Sunday (not Saturday), and it looks like we will actually have a launch crew.    We will be launching from our regular field at URI’s Peckham Farm.  Set up will begin at 9:00 am, and if you help with setup, you will be able to carpool from the parking area to the launch site.

Unfortunately, Jason from AMW will not be able to attend, so bring your own motors or be prepared to barter.  (I’m not sure if they can be here in time, but Buyrocketmotors.com is having a sale right now.)

While prepping your rockets, check out the article about high-altitude amateur rocketry in this month’s National Geographic.

September launch rescheduled to 9/16

Unfortunately we have to postpone the launch that was originally scheduled for 9/8 to Sunday, 9/16.  If you really need to launch this weekend, I suggest visiting our friends in southern Maine, MMMSC.  They have a great launch site in Berwick that is just a 3 hour drive from southern Rhode Island.

Our regular launch schedule and protocols will apply on Sunday the 16th.  Hope to see you then!

Rained out!

//sad trombone music//

Good grief!  The forecast went from great to horrible for this weekend.  With rain predicted both Saturday and Sunday, we have to scrub the launch.

The next regularly scheduled RIMRA launch will be on September 8.  See you then!

RIMRA Launch on Saturday, August 11

Edit:  It appears that we jinxed the weather for this month’s launch.  The forecast is worsening by the day.  We’ll make the official go/no-go call on Friday at 6:00.  Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed….

The weather looks great for this weekend!  RIMRA will be launching from URI’s Peckham Farm this Saturday.  The regular launch protocol will be followed.  Set up will begin at 9:00 am, and if you help with setup, you will be able to carpool from the parking area to the launch site.

Unfortunately, there will be no Rocket Grill (lunch) or AMW Pro-X (rocket supplies vendor) on site this month, so bring a picnic lunch and all of your supplies.  (Though Brenton has been hoarding motors, as usual.  And you are always welcome to borrow/barter from his stash.)
